Recently I was led to read Matthew 10 and instantly the scripture was illuminated. “Jesus called his twelve disciples together and gave them authority to cast out evil spirits and to heal every kind of disease and illness.” This demonstrates that Jesus has power over all these things or else he would not be able to share his authority. Not just some spirits or sickness but ALL. This has to be sealed in our hearts as believers that not only is he good but all powerful. This also begs a question I find myself asking ; if God is all powerful which I believe him to be, why are we not seeing the miracles or supernatural? Many believers ignore the topic out of concern for offending Jesus, as if our questions aren’t already known by him. Some stop believing that God heals today, but scripturally there is no evidence that Jesus reclaimed this authority- and we know that God is not a gift reclaimer. In fact, He told us greater things than these we would see when compared to some of his own miracles he performed. The question we believers need to ask is “where is the disconnect?” We know there is no lack of authority, nor does God wish to withhold from his children. It would be easy to be like the disciples with the blind man and make up reasons to fit our theology but I’m challenging myself and our community to go deeper. I believe we want to see more of the miraculous, and that means being open to Holy Spirit with our own hearts. Let’s be transparent before Him and let Him bring truth and healing- starting with situations where we may have been disappointed. You may be surprised what the Holy Spirit reveals to you when you listen. In the meantime let’s continue imitating Christ, because remember- as his follower you have been given authority!
